Hu Jintao and Li Keqiang commemorate Wenchuan Earthquake at Yingxiu Township

China Marks One Year of Wenchuan Quake

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended a ceremony Tuesday afternoon at Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan County in Sichuan Province, marking last year's massive quake.

Guards of honor placed 10 floral baskets in front of a symbolic clock showing the time of the quake. Hu then walked and stood with rapt attention in front of a floral basket dedicated by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to all victims of the earthquake.

Hong Kong Governor Donald Tsang Attends Earthquake Memorial

The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, today (May 12) attended a commemoration to mark the first anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Wenchuan, and urged the people of Hong Kong to continue to support the relief and redevelopment work in the area.

EERI and GEER report on the Wenchuan Earthquake

The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and the Geo-Engineering Earthquake Reconnaissance (GEER) Association carried out a field investigation in conjunction with Chinese colleagues from August 3-11 to document effects of the May 12 earthquake.
